The kidney transplant team at SGH-Jeddah has successfully conducted two kidney transplant operations on the same day .
In the first case, a 24-year-old Eritrean patient named Said Abdel Kader Yassin was undergoing hemodialysis for one year. His 33-year-old sister, Najat Abdel Kader Yassin, generously agreed to donate one of her kidneys to end his severe suffering. Medical tests were performed on the donor and the recipient prior to transplantation.
In the second case, a 24-year-old Palestinian patient ,Abdelrahman Ammar Yahya El Akad, has been suffering from kidney failure for several years. He was undergoing medication therapy and waiting for his fat :To start hemodialysis sessions. Thanks to God , he didn't get to this stage as his brother , Anas Ammar Yahya El Akad , generously donate one of his kidneys to end his suffering .
This great achievement was on July 15, 2018 . It is worth to mention that these two cases are the third and fourth case of a successful kidney transplantation conducted at SGH- Jeddah . The hospital has a waiting list for some patients of different nationalities who need kidney transplant.
Currently , these patients are undergoing medical tests prior to transplantation. Kidney transplant surgeries are expected to be conducted for them in the coming weeks.
A 39-years-old Saudi patient presented to SGH-Jeddah complaining of recurrent abdominal pain. He was transferred from another hospital at Riyadh . Medical tests detected the presence of large gallstone and increase of bilirubin in the blood . Liver function tests and magnetic resonance imaging showed nothing abnormal. Previous lab tests results were requested from the other hospital to ensure that bilirubin is elevated consistently .After elaborative preparation, Surgeons decided to perform cholecystectomy. Liver biopsy was also done .Surgery was performed by Consultant General Surgery and Endoscopy .After the operation, patient went to a hospital room where she spent 2 days before leaving the hospital .
An unmarried girl had successful uterine fibroids removal surgery by doctors at SGH-Jeddah. The unmarried girl presented with a large mass in her abdomen. Uterus was so enlarged that it looked like she was 9 months pregnant.The fibroids cumulatively weighed 5 kilograms. There were several of them and they were huge. Surgeons could extract all fibroids at one time. The uterus , Fallopian tube, ovaries remain preserved and the girl retains her reproductive potential. The girl discharged from the hospital after surgery and today she is fit and ready for her life ahead
Surgeons at the department of Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplant surgery at SGH-Jeddah have successfully removed choledochal cysts in a 32-years-old patient. The patient presented to the department of Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplant surgery, headed by professor Amr Abdel AaL, with severe abdominal pain , abnormal liver function , recurrent cholangitis and obstruction of the bile ducts. Physical examination, laboratory tests and abdominal ultrasound were performed. They detected the presence of choledochal cysts. Choledochal cysts were treated successfully by surgical excision of the cysts with the formation of a roux-en-Y anastomosis hepaticojujenostomy to the biliary duct. Choledochal cysts are a rare medical condition which have been attributed to recurrent infection and obstruction of the bile ducts .The surgery lasted almost two hours without the use of a blood transfusion. After the operation, patient went to a hospital room where she spent 5 days before leaving the hospital. Under the supervision of the Department of Health Awareness and Community Service Programs, SGH-Jeddah conducted an awareness campaign headed by Dr. Deyaa Ewes, Consultant Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, on some tips that may help the diabetic to fast the holy month of Ramadan without any health problems such as healthy nutrition and physical activity, where some advice was given to the type 2 diabetics who are treated with insulin injections that they can fast after consulting with their doctors to see the impact of fasting on blood sugar level, for patients with complications of diabetes such as kidney function, lack of cardiac blood circulation or peripheral arteries they should consult a specialist to determine the stability of their condition or the effect of fasting on these complications. It has also been observed that patients at iftar should drink plenty of fluids with low sugar out. He also stressed in the lecture that the patient should not be exposed to high cholesterol or blood pressure and refrain completely from smoking. The lecture included the measurement of blood sugar, blood pressure, weight and mass of body fat for all those who thanked the officials for this useful event.
