A 47-year-old Saudi patient was admitted to Saudi German Hospital due to severe chest pain. He had received percutaneous coronary intervention at SGH fourteen years ago.Prof. Mohamed Adel , Consultant and Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, examined the patient .He requested Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and cardiac CT scan. The patient was diagnosed with a giant right coronary artery aneurysm. This aneurysm was around 9 cm in diameter.
Giant coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) in adults is a rare clinical entity . Urgent open heart surgery was scheduled as aneurysm became more likely to rupture. The surgery was performed by Cardiac Surgery team including Dr. Mohamed Adel , Dr. Rami Ibrahim ,Dr. Ibrahim Rushdi , anesthesiologist Dr. Sayed Nour and Dr. Sherif Ali. It took 5 hours and involved coronary artery bypass grafting and resection of the right coronary artery aneurysm. The patient was discharged 6 days after surgery. He is doing well on follow-up with no recurrence of symptoms.
